The Toilet That Could

Once upon a time, there lived a toilet. It was a magical toilet, he had a gold rim and had an automatic seat warmer. This toilet was living happily in is fellow toilet kingdom. One day in the fine kingdom a toilet was rushed to the plumbers because it was over flowing with water and flooding the city. For some reason the magical toilet felt that he had to go to the plumbers because a toilet was in need. The magical toilet quick went on his trusty segway and sped off into the sunset.

The next day he arrived at the plumbers. The toilet went in and discovered the toilet in need had a nice turtle neck that was the color tickle me pink. This color obviously told the toilet that this was also a magical toilet. He quickly shoved the plumber out of the way and performed CPR. The pink toilet came alive. Then the toilets lived happily ever after.  

Symbolism

In the short story The Lottery, written by Shirley Jackson, has a lot of symbolism. In other stories I know have symbolism Among the Hidden, one example of in that book is Luke's house symbolizes like a prison to him.  Some of the symbolism includes death.

An example of that is the black box because everyone stopped chattering and joking around when the black box came and your fate can be decided by the box. Another thing that symbolizes death are the stones. It is symbolic and lateral. Also the black dot is on the slips of paper also symbolizes death.

Music Response

Author's Note: A response to how the music affects the mood of the poem.

In the poem "Field Below" it is describing that we do not appreciate the little things in life until they are goneThe mood of the poem in "Field Below" didn't change it seemed really glum and boring. The women's voice and tone is very dreadful and scared. Also most of the words didn't change from "Field Below". In the poem it seemed even more sad then the song but, there is not much of a difference between the two pieces. In "Big Yellow Taxi" when you are reading the poem you think of nature being destroyed because one of the lines is "pave a paradise" which is referring to paving concrete and destroy nature. Even though when reading the poem it seems sad but, when you listen to the upbeat happy song, you will change how you feel about the poem. The song makes it seem like they are happy that the nature is being destroyed and that they are literal paving a paradise.

Gummy Bears

Gummy Bears so yummy
They are so sweet and gummy
They even have their own theme song
Cuz I'm a gummy bear
Cuz I'm a gummy bear
I'm a moving grooving tooving gummy bear
They are so yummy

They can not pee

Response to a'Mother to Son"

There is a lot of figurative language in the poem "Mother to Son". One example of figurative language is when she says her life is not a crystal stair case. So was just trying to say that her life wasn't easy. Another metaphor is that she said her stair case is bare, and what she meant by that was loneliness and poverty. The splinters is another metaphor, it shows that her life has many pains. The mood of the poem was sad, it was because she was talking about that her life wasn't good. Also the tone is soft because she is telling her son to preserver. Since Langston Hughes (Author) is African American, he is trying to tell everyone why make African Americans miserable?

Character Description

Author's Note: This is a description on one of the characters in the book Sea Of Monsters

If he walked into this room you would hear big thumps and the ground shaking and you wouldn't be able to sit still. He would smell like a peanut butter sandwich dragged through the mud for a day. You would see what would appear to be two eyes but, really only one. The door would be to small for him to fit through. He would have tattered cloths and no shoes to walk with. He has trouble talking and understanding things. What is he?

Dealing with Change

Author’s Note: This is an essay on why dealing with change is a theme.

"There were many things happening at Yancy Academy that day, traffic jams, the sounds of car horns, and the smell of gasoline burning from many New Yorkers cars. This was an average day for me and my boring life, oh yeah I was attacked by my math teacher who suddenly could grow talons and bat wings" (Fury). This could have been what Percy was thinking on the bus ride home to his apartment. The last sentence shows how dealing with change is a theme in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief.

One character in the book is Percy Jackson and his life is involved with the theme dealing with change. His dad is Poseidon, and he has to deal with this change in a huge way. Since his dad is Poseidon, monsters are always searching for him and wanting to kill him. He deals with this change by going to Camp Half-Blood, Camp Half-Blood is a place where monsters can't go unless summoned. Another reason dealing with change is a theme is when Percy finds out Poseidon is his dad. When he finds out he has to be moved to a different cabin by himself and is treated like he is the most powerful person alive. Percy deals with this by just sticking with his friends at the Hermes cabin. Since he has to deal with this change he will never have a normal life.

A conflict in the book is that the Zeus's master bolt was stolen and Zeus was accusing Percy of taking it. As well as the master bolt stolen, the dark helm was stolen. Percy went from having a normal life to a kid that is wanted died by two of the three most powerful gods. He dealt with all this with anger; his driving power is that Hades took his mother away from him that is why he never became scared like a normal kid would. Another conflict is how he is supposed to get to the underworld. Percy deals with this change by going with his friends to the underworld, and takes a train from New York to Los Angeles.

This theme is just not in one book it is in the next book in the series, Sea of Monsters. It deals with a lot of change; the Golden Fleece that protects Camp Half-Blood gets stolen. Percy and Annabeth go after it and since nowhere is safe they are constantly fighting monsters. Percy gets turned into a hamster, so he has to deal with his new surrounding which makes his life a lot harder. As well as that all of his favorite camp directors get fired because they are accused of stealing the Golden Fleece. He deals with this by going out and trying to find the Golden Fleece and get his camp directors jobs back.

As you can see this is a reoccurring theme in the book The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters. Percy deals with change, his dad is Poseidon and monsters chase after him wanting to kill him. So he goes to Camp Half-Blood where monsters can’t come in unless they are summoned. That shows how dealing with change is a theme in the book.

The letter of Truth

Dear Punk (Percy),

You have mysteriously disappeared. I don't know where you have gone but, I have my ideas. I'm writing this letter just to tell you NEVER COME BACK!!! I will enjoy my seven layer dip with my buddies from work and just them THANK YOU!!! Also thanks to you punk I have no car to drive to work in. I got fired because of it. There are so many reasons I will never let you live here again.

First and most importantly you completely destroyed my car and I don't have enough money to buy a new one. Next on this never ending list, you also took your mother with you now I don't have a maid to pick all the trash from our poker game. Also since your mother isn't around to make me and the guys food none of them want to come back and play poker any more they also said it was to messy to play.

Finally, I hope you consider this letter and never come back. You shouldn't come back because you broke my car and you don't want to see what I did to the last guy that broke my car. He was in the hospital for three weeks with two broken legs and a broken arm. So NEVER ever, ever, ever COME BACK!!!

Character in The Lighting Thief

A character in the book The Lightning Thief is Percy Jackson. He believes that he has a real father but, he went out to sea and never came back. He lives with his mother and fat step-father in New York. His step-father is an alcoholic and has gambling issues. I think his attitude is very poor because he is fed up with his step dad and is frustrated on how he treats is mother. Also he has ADHD which helps when he is fighting and he is also dyslexic and that helps him understand Greek. His impact is that he is a half-blood and he is one of the most powerful half-bloods. Frequently he has been able to control water with out knowing it. It impacts the whole story because he is Poseidon son and has the powers to control water but, he doesn't know that yet.

Advantages of Hydroelectric Power

Author’s Note: This short essay is about why we should use hydroelectric power as the U.S prime energy source.

There are many power sources we use in the U.S today. Some examples are coal, natural gases, and nuclear. Those are well used resources in the U.S. I don’t believe it is the best choice to use those sources because they have very harmful effects. They aren’t the best sources. The best source to use is hydroelectric.

There are a lot of advantages in using hydroelectric power. One example is it has an unlimited supply of energy. There is no fear of eventually running out, unlike coal and uranium. Another advantage is it doesn’t hurt the environment as bad the other sources. It does hurt fresh water aquatic life but, the only aquatic animals we normal eat or use are salt water animals such as lobster and shrimp. Also it doesn’t pollute after you use it. In addition, it helps the fight against climate change. Also it improves the air we breathe in everyday, it has more than one use.

There are ways more disadvantages in the resources we use now. An example is nuclear power. Nuclear power creates nuclear waste and radiation and radiation causes cancer. Why would we use something that causes cancer and the cancer kill thousands of people each year? Also it is very unstable you have to use it in a high maintain lab which could cost all kinds of money. As well as that, if an accident in that lab could be disastrous. Look what happened to Japan in the recent year. Another resource is coal it has a lot of disadvantages. One disadvantage is it adds to global warming. Also it is hard to transport.

I concluded that hydroelectric power has a lot of advantages of using. Also I don’t think you want to use a resource that had way more disadvantages than advantages such as nuclear power. Yes hydroelectric power had disadvantages too but, theirs are minor and don’t cause a huge effect. Those are reasons why hydroelectric power is the best energy source out there.

That everything happens for a reason so you have to be smart to not risk anything because everything happens for a reason. If you take things the wrong way something bad might happen to you but, in this story the boy was lucky that the lady treated him how she did. One example is the Bucks lost last night 97-92 they lost because they didn't score the most points. They didn't score the most points because they are not the most talented team in the NBA. The team they played had much more talent so therefore the Bucks lost. That is an example on why everything happens for a reason.

The Pick Pocket

Author's Note: A story about David

David froze, checking his pockets. Where was the money? He started to search his house frantically searching for his money. He rushed into his bedroom and tore his dresser apart searching for his money. He didn't find anything so he went searching into his kitchen throwing his coffee maker on the ground and shattered it. Searching through all the his containers and drawers and couldn't find it. He screamed in frustration. He sat down furious that he couldn't find his money the rent on his apartment. This was his 3rd and final strike for not paying his rent and he will be thrown out. He was thinking trying to replace his steps on where he could have lost it. All he did today was take the bus to go get medication for his sore back. He rushed out the door and take a bus to the pharmacy. When he arrived he busted through the door and headed to the clerk wondering if the had found money today. The clerk shook his head no and David was stunned wondering where is money has went. He walked out the door in disbelieving that he lost his rent money that was due the next day. In shock he fall over and fainted.

When he came too he realized he was in the hospital and was wondering why he was here. The doctor came over and said that the police had found him unconscious laying on the curb. He still didn't know why he was still here. Then the doctor finally told him that he was in the hospital because both of his legs were shattered. A car in a high speed chase ran over him in to be a distraction thus shattering both of his legs. David asked the doctor how would he pay for this he had no home, no job, and no money. As well as having none of that he had no parents and the closest relative is living in China for business. He had no one to bail him out. He sat there for countless hours recovering for his latest wound.

Then nurse said there was someone to see him a short chubby little man walked in. David had no clue who this was. He soon realized that it was one of the workers from the pharmacy he went in he also knew that was the man who accidentally bumped into him. The chubby man introduced himself as Fredrick. Fredrick looked sad when he introduced himself. Fredrick told the story that instead of accidentally bumping into him he actually pick pocketed him. David sat stock in disbelieving that this story wasn't true and died of a heart attack. Fredrick was stunned standing not knowing what to do. He left in silence out of the hospital.

The Comparison

Author's Note: This story is about the similarities and differences between April Mornings and the movie The Patriot.

He was quickly reloading to get another shot on him. Bang! The gun sends a tiny musket ball heading right for a British soldier it hits him in the arm. He drops his gun and falls in pain. In the movie The Patriot, the main character Benjamin is fighting against the soldier who killed both of his sons. This movie is similar to the book April Mornings. These books are similar and different compared to each other.

The book and the movie have many similarities. One similarity is the two were happening in the same time period. You could tell they were in the same time period because in both stories used muskets when they fought against the British. Also the two priests were called the Reverend. In addition they both used swords as a secondary weapon. Another reason you could tell it was in the same time period is because they either traveled on foot or by horse.

Also another similarity is the both were fighting for America. They were fighting for America because they were fighting against the British to win over the land. As well as that they both had won the battle in the two stories. Also they had to overcome many things. One is they were outnumbered by hundreds. They also had very little food and shelter. They were both militias and farmers and didn’t know all the war tactics.

As well as similarities there are differences. One difference is the type of main character. They are different ages. The main character in the movie is in his forties and had several children and the main character in the book is about seventeen. This affects the story in a lot of ways. The forty year old would have a lot more experience than the seventeen year old. Another difference is that in the movie it was on a bigger scale. In the book they were just defending their home town from the British. The battle in the book had no effect on the outcome in the war unlike the movie where it had a big effect on the wars outcome.

Finally the two books have many similarities and differences. One same is they both was fighting for and America and freedom. The main difference was the impacted the two battles had on the total outcome of the war. The two stories are similar on different.

Dead Man's Path Response

This story reminds me of a story I have heard before. The other story is about this guy who comes across a bunch of money. He was living well until one day this strange man said they should be friends and the guy with all the money spent if and wasted it in one day. In Dead Man's Path he had it all but, he wasted his chance of having it big time.
